Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy

What is Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST)?

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) is a very subtle yet deeply profound therapy which involves very lightnon-invasive and non-manipulative contact at various points of the body. The Craniosacral therapist is skilled in ‘listening’ to the workings of our body and encourages and supports our innate health to heal any aspects of our system which need attention, to facilitate optimum health and well-being. Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy has a strong foundation in viewing our systems as a whole, and recognises the interconnection of mind, body and spirit.  It can have a deep impact on our well-being and our experience of our self on a physical, emotional and/or spiritual level.

One of the great things I love about Craniosacral Therapy is that we don’t need to know exactly what has caused the symptoms that you are now experiencing.  The body will know how things have arisen and will, therefore, have an understanding of how to resolve them.

What does an in-person session involve?

The client remains fully clothed (with shoes removed) and typically lies on their back on a massage table.  The therapist will make very light contact at various points on the body – for example, at the head, feet, lower back, shoulders etc.  The therapist is trained in perceiving subtle phenomena in the body. Through applying their attention, and knowledge of anatomy and physiology to these phenomena, the body’s natural healing capacity is supported in its action to resolve any congestion or inertia that may be a residue of various incidents (physical or emotional) that have occurred throughout our lives.  Sometimes memories or emotions associated with the pattern may emerge.  The therapist is skilled in supporting and resourcing the client to manage this within a safe and grounded environment. The pace of what happens within a session is guided by the body and in discussion with the client.

What benefits can I expect?

Most people experience some sense of relaxation, often at a deep level they have not experienced before.  A reassuring and grounding sense of integration and wholeness can also arise as we come back into contact with our bodies and ourselves. It can be a deeply moving and revitalising experience. Symptoms we have experienced for many years may start to disappear.  During the treatment some people may feel various sensations, perhaps warmth or a tingling.  There may be a short period of adjustment after a session possibly with an increased awareness of symptoms – these are all positive signs of the healing process.

How many sessions would I need?

There is no set number of sessions.  It will depend on what it is that the client brings to the sessions and how far they want to explore things.   Issues that have been long-standing may take longer.  Whilst many people often feel the benefits of relaxation from the start, it is recommended that people expect to attend between three to six sessions, coming once every one or two weeks initially, before deeper issues or conditions are addressed and the body finds a new balance.  After this we can review the situation.  Some people may then continue to come for ‘maintenance’ sessions anywhere between 1 to 6 months to support their body and health.

Who and what is it for?

Because it is an intrinsically holistic approach, Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy can be beneficial for many aspects and levels of health – acute and chronic. Physically, it can affect the nervous system, the skeletal system and the tissues and fluids.  On the emotional level it can affect deep and fundamental patterns and help us build up a sense of inner strength and resource.  On a spiritual level it can open doors to the heart and soul and profoundly affect our lives.

Whilst people may come with a specific issue or symptom, the treatment itself is guided by what your body feels is the priority.

You don’t need to be ill or have any specific condition to benefit from BCST. It will simply enhance your sense of vitality and overall well-being. Many people continue attending sessions over the long-term as part of maintaining their overall health.  Read the testimonials for more information.

Since it is so gentle and non-invasive, and is guided by the body, BCST is suitable for any age and is particularly well-known for its work with babies and young children.
